It took 40 years to get here

Map highlighting road route from Dallas, TX to Santa Fe, NM via Amarillo and Tucumcari

Yes, over 40 years. I began coming to Santa Fe in the early ’80s, first through work where i hosted groups of CPAs who wanted to meet in interesting places, and then on my own with friends.

I’ve met many people over the years who say Santa Fe has changed, and not for the better. It’s gotten too large, too busy, has too much traffic, and is only for the tourists. I disagree with most of this. Busier, yes, but too large? No.

In Dallas, we used to say it only took 10 minutes to get across town. You can’t do that any longer. In Santa Fe, it does really only take 10 minutes to get across town. I love that.

What I love about living here is the lifestyle. Many people it’s a hurry-up-and-wait city, where people take their time to get things done. I say, what’s wrong with that? We’re all in such as hurry that it’s nice to slow down and breathe.

Oh, did I mention there’s virtually no humidity here?
